If you are separating/divorcing
Separation or divorce is truly one of the most disappointing experiences of one's life. But, over and over again, I have watched my clients gracefully, with time, move on to a better place. Family lawyers help with the practical aspects of the separation/divorce process, such as property division, parenting, child support and spousal support. If you are separating or divorcing from your spouse, you will probably have lots of questions about the future, such as:
- Where will I (and my children) live?
- Will I have enough money to meet my expenses?
- Will I have to give my spouse ownership of the house?
- Do I need to get a divorce?
- Will I need to start working full-time?
My approach to assisting clients reach settlement of their family law issues is a combination of educating them about their legal rights, and focusing them on their "interests" instead of their "positions" in a negotiation. The processes I offer are non-adversarial. In my opinion, it is well worth it, both emotionally and financially, to work within a non-adversarial process to resolve legal separation issues or any family law issue.
